Habitat For Humanity Unveils The Site Of Future Habitat Homes In Midland
October 22, 2020

NORTH SIMCOE, October 21, 2020 – Through shelter, they empower. Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North, is proud to deliver two new, energy efficient homes in Midland that are compliant with universal design. On October 21, North Simcoe community leaders, David Dalrymple, representing MP Bruce Stanton; Jacqueline Bayley, representing MPP Jill Dunlop; Doug Leroux, Mayor, Town of/ Ville de Penetanguishene; George Cornell, Mayor of The Corporation of the Township of Tiny; Ted Walker, Mayor of Tay Township; and Stewart Strathearn, Mayor of The Corporation of the Town of Midland joined Kimberley Woodcock, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North and members of the North Simcoe chapter of Habitat for Humanity to unveil the site of the latest Habitat homes, to be located at 808 Birchwood Drive, Midland.

Fueled by the clear need for affordable, age-friendly housing, the Habitat for Humanity North Simcoe chapter has started planning the details of the Midland build project and are focused on fundraising over the winter as they lead up to the ground-breaking, planned for the spring. The organization has launched their first virtual fundraising campaign, BUILDS IN MOTION (www.buildsinmotion.com), which runs throughout the month of October and names the Midland Build Project as a beneficiary of the funds generated through the campaign. “We know that a safe, decent and affordable home plays an absolutely critical role in helping families to create a brighter future, one filled with possibilities, progress, and community contribution.” said Kimberley Woodcock, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North. “Through developing affordable housing, we bring communities together to empower local people in need of a hand up.”

Located at 808 Birchwood Drive, Midland, the future Habitat homes are no ordinary affordable homes. Not only do they offer desperately needed supply of quality housing units, they have a social conscience too. The 2021 build project looks beyond construction to the well-being of the Habitat homeowners. These energy efficient homes will ensure a low cost of operating and they will offer numerous accessibility features. They remove many environmental barriers to provide a sense of possibility, freedom, and hope for people currently isolated and limited by an inaccessible home.

“We are seeking additional partnerships, corporate sponsors, and major donors,” added Ms. Woodcock, “to join in the successful delivery of these age-friendly, affordable homes. The affordable housing crisis affects everyone in the community, and we invite all to participate in the solution.”
